Let the number be x:

So intepreting the word problem into words we will have:

2x-(1)/(3)x=55

Simplifying further, we will have:

\begin{gathered} (5)/(3)x=55 \\ \end{gathered}

Cross multiply:

\begin{gathered} 5x=165 \\ x=(165)/(5) \\ x=33 \\ \text{The number is 33} \end{gathered}
