Cattle ranching was an important business for the Great Plains, because the Great Plains had enough grass to sustain all the cattles bred, and there was a high demand for beef (cattle meat) during that time.
Ranchers would raise large numbers of cattles to sell to the east, and gain a lot of money during that time period
