Complex Fractions

Also known as mixed fractions, complex fractions have three parts: an integer part a numerator, and a denominator.

The fraction

3(1)/(2)

Can be converted to a simple fraction by adding the integer to the fraction as follows:

3(1)/(2)=3+(1)/(2)=(6+1)/(2)=(7)/(2)

The system has a water leak that makes it lose 7/2 milliliters of water every 18 minutes.

To find the change of the amount of water per minute, we divide:

((7)/(2))/(18)=(7)/(2\cdot18)=(7)/(36)

The change is -7/36 milliliters per minute
