Why were the colonists divided over the fight for independence? Some colonists needed the reassurance of a strong authority. Some wanted to wait to fight Britain. Some felt the leaders were too vengeful. Some believed that it was too soon to seek independence.

Because it was considered treason to fight against the British and many believed that they would lose the fight

The colonists were divided over the fight for independence because: D) some believed that it was too soon to seek independence. Some colonist were fearful because it was considered treason to fight for independence from Great Britain but more importantly they feared that the imminent war would be lost on their side because Great Britain was too powerful. They believed the war would be better fought at a later time when the colonies had grown in strength for the battle ahead.
