Given that XZ = 8x - 2 and YZ = 2x + 1 and that Y is the midpoint of line XZ.

2YZ = XZ
2(2x + 1) = 8x - 2
4x + 2 = 8x - 2
8x - 4x = 2 + 2
4x = 4
x = 1.
