Yes this is true, France, Britain, and Russia made a pact to help each other. Russia made a pact with the Allies because Germany allowed their alliance time to lapse, and so the Russians were angry and joined the Allies. The Germans found out that they did the wrong thing because they didn't want to fight a two-front war, and lo and behold... now they have a two front war
