air temperature decreases 12 degrees farenheight for every 4000 feet increase in altitude. If a hiker climbs 3000 feet by how much can she expect the temperature to decrease?

3000 is 3/4 of 4000. So multiply 12 by 3/4 to get 9. When a hiker climbs up to 3000, she can expect the temperature to decrease by 9 degrees. Hope this helps! ;)
