Given a cylinder with a diameter of d and a height of h, the volume, V, is given by

V=(\pi d^2h)/(4)

In this case,

d = 16 inches, h = 2ft

1 foot = 12 inches

Therefore,

d=(16)/(12)=(4)/(3)ft

Therefore,

V=(\pi((4)/(3))^22)/(4)=(\pi(4)(2))/(3^2)=(8\pi)/(9)\text{ cubic fe}et

V=2.79 cubic feet

Therefore the approximate number is 2.79
