We need to first make the variable b non-negative. To do this, we first add 10 b on both sides, achieving 24=10b+9 or 10b+9=24. Subtracting 9 on both sides gets us 10b=24-9=15. Dividing 10 on both sides finally gets b=15/10=3/2.
