The integral symbol looks like an elongated S, as in sum. Why do you suppose this?

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, the Mathematician who first introduced the symbol for integral,
\int, thought that the symbol is to represent integral as an infinite sum. This symbol was adapted from the letter 's'.
