The statement " force equals mass times acceleration " is Newton's second law of motion. Why is this a law rather than a theory?

This is a law because the math behind it is simple and makes sense – is scientifically proven and developed and is designed to be used. If double the force, you have double acceleration, double the mass, you get half the acceleration. A theory is an opinion or an idea, this is a law because it is sound and the only law for this theme, it stands true for every scenario.
