They are protist and unicellular. They are classified in the Archaebacteria or Eubacteria kingdoms. They can be aerobic or anaerobic. They are often classified by their oxygen requirements and by the type of nutrition in which they engage.

Eubacteria are classified by their shape and organization. Spirilla, Bacilli, and Cocci are the usual shapes of this type of bacteria.
