remember, you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

-2(4x+2)=-2(x+3)+9
distribute
-8x-4=-2x-6+9
add like terms
-8x-4=-2x+3
add 8x to both sides
-4=6x+3
minus 3 both sides
-7=6x
divide both sides by 6
-7/6=x
x=-7/6

-2(4x+2)=-2(x+3)+9
-8x-4= (-2x-6) +9
-8x-4=-2x +3
-8x + 2x= 3 +4
-6x=7
x=7/-6
x=-1.167
