Why do governments provide public goods answers?

The free market is incapable of providing these essential goods.
Private companies cannot profit by providing them.

Answer:

The goods and services which are provided by the governments are known as public goods. It provides public goods because it is not beneficial to leave the in the hands of private enterprise, such as the police, defense and national education. The government provides these goods and services as some sections of society need more help than others and private companies, which are profit driven doesn't want to serve them. People cannot be excluded from public goods and services. Although some services are easily available in market, but it is important to provide it publicly to make it cheap and efficient.
