x = 1/4

First step, you solve whatever is in the parentheses: left side you subtract and right side you just multiply the negative by everything within the parentheses.
Second step, you get rid of the parentheses completely on the left side and the right side, you combine like terms.
Third step, you isolate the 4x, in my example, I made it so 4x is positive (this is often to prevent possible sign confusions but you can always do it the opposite way.
Fourth step, you divide both sides by whatever is with x, in this case it’s 4.
Fifth step, simplify or just write down the final answer!
