High school students and college students were surveyed to see what type of movies they prefer. The results are as follows:

High school—Action: 26; Drama: 14; Comedy: 22
College—Action: 20; Drama: 28; Comedy: 18

Which of the following is a correct two-way relative frequency table for the data?

It's asking for two-way relative frequency so the answer must be in relative form.

If I'm not wrong that would be the last table D.

Answer:

Hence, the two way frequency table is:

Action Drama Comedy total

Highschool 26/128=0.20 14/128=0.11 22/128=0.17 0.48

College 20/128=0.16 28/128=0.22 18/128=0.14 0.52

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

total 0.36 0.33 0.31 1

Explanation:

" When a two-way table displays percentages or ratios (called relative frequencies), instead of just frequency counts, the table is referred to as a two-way relative frequency table " .

We are given a table or data as:

Action Drama Comedy Total

Highschool 26 14 22 62

College 20 28 18 68

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total 46 42 40 128

The total number of students in all the categories and classes are: 128

Hence the two way frequency table is constructed by dividing all the frequencies by the total number of students i.e. 128.

Action Drama Comedy total

High school 26/128=0.20 14/128=0.11 22/128=0.17 0.48

College 20/128=0.16 28/128=0.22 18/128=0.14 0.52

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

total 0.36 0.33 0.31 1
