Jennifer has recently interviewed for two different jobs. She feels there is a 0.440 probability of being offered the first job and a 0.500 probability of being offered the second job. Assume that the two job offers are statistically independent. a. What is the probability that Jennifer will be offered both jobs?

The probability rules states that, if A and B are two independent events, such as in this problem, the probabilty that both events ocurr simultaneously is the multiplication between their probabilities. Because of that we have that:


\begin{gathered} P\text{ \lparen of being offered both jobs\rparen = P1 \lparen of being offered the first one\rparen * P2 \lparen of being offered the second one\rparen} \\ P\text{ = 0.440 * 0.500} \\ P\text{ = 0.22} \end{gathered}

So, the probability of Jennifer being offered both jobs is 0.22, or 22%
