Solution

Step 1

Lateral area

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of triangle with height 11.7 in and base 8 in} \\ Area\text{ = }(1)/(2)*8*11.7 \\ Area\text{ = 46.8 in}^2 \\ Area\text{ of triangle with height 10.8 in and base 12 in} \\ Area\text{ = }(1)/(2)*12*10.8 \\ Area\text{ = 64.8 in}^2 \end{gathered}
Lateral\text{ area = 2}*46.8\text{ + 2}*64.8\text{ = 93.6 + 129.6 = 223.2 in}^2

Lateral area = 223.2

Step 2

Total surface area

\begin{gathered} Total\text{ surface area = Lateral area + area of the rectangular base} \\ =\text{ 223.2 + 12}*8 \\ =\text{ 223.2 + 96} \\ =\text{ 319.2 in}^2 \end{gathered}

Total surface area = 319.2
