Percent means per one hundred...

$35(8/100)

$280/100

$2.80

Like with pretty much any other percentage problem, convert the percent into a decimal.

To do this, move the percent sign two places to the left and turn the percent sign into a decimal point.

8% = 0.08

There is a 8% tax on the jacket.

So, 0.08 * 35 is the expression you're looking for.
