Well, imagery is when something vividly makes you see something...
(Ex- The bright yellow tulip waved in the lush green field)
By saying I hear America singing, he's saying LOOK, AMERICA IS EITHER (rejoycing, crying) ABOUT THIS! Thats what I'd say.
