Solution:

Given:

To get the area of the composite shape, we find the area of the rectangle and the area of the semicircle and then sum the areas up.

The area of the rectangle:

\begin{gathered} A=lw \\ A=10*8 \\ A=80ft^2 \end{gathered}

The area of the semicircle:

\begin{gathered} d=8ft \\ r=(d)/(2) \\ r=(8)/(2) \\ r=4ft \\ \\ Area\text{ of semicircle}=(1)/(2)\pi r^2 \\ A=(1)/(2)*(22)/(7)*4^2 \\ A=25.14ft^2 \end{gathered}

Thus, the area of the composite shape is the sum of both areas;

\begin{gathered} A=80+25.14 \\ A=105.14ft^2 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the area of the composite shape is 105.14 square feet.
