You have the following system of equations:

-8x - 7y = 61

x + y = -8

in order to solve the previous system of equations, first multiply by 8 the second equation, and sum the result to the first equation, just as follow:

(x + y = -8)(8)

8x + 8y = -64

-8x - 7y = 61

8x + 8y = -64

y = -3

next, replace the previous value of y into the any of the equations of the system and solve for x. For instance, by using the second equation:

x + y = -8

x + (-3) = -8

x - 3 = -8 add 3 both sides

x = -8 + 3 simplify

x = -5

Hence, the solution to the given system of equations is x=-5 and y=-3, or the point (-5,-3)
