16. A clothing store is having a sale on shirts and jeans. 4 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans cost $64. 3 shirts and 3 pairs of jeans cost $72. The system of equations 4s + 2j = 64 models this situation, where s is the cost of a shirt and j is the cost of 3s + 3 = 72 a pair of jeans. How much does one shirt and one pair of jeans cost?

A clothing store is having a sale on shirts and jeans.

Let s represent the cost of one shirt and j represent the cost of jeans

4 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans cost $64.

4s + 2j = 64

3 shirts and 3 pairs of jeans cost $72.

3s + 3j = 72

Solve the system of equations :

4s + 2j = 64 (1)

3s + 3j = 72 (2)

simplify the equatiins into the implest from :

4s + 2j = 64

divide botj side by 2

2s + j =32 (3)

3s + 3j = 72

divide botj side by 3

s + j = 24 (4)

The given system of equations :

2s + j = 32 ( 5)

s + j = 24 (6)

The general form of liner equation is : ax + by + c = 0

On comparing each equation withe genere if form

a_1=2,a_2=1,b_1=1,b_2=1,c_1=32,c_2=24

where crsoo multiplication is express as :

undefined
