Suppose you and some friends are going to the movies. The amount of money you spend for tickets varies directly with the number of people buying tickets. If you spend $28 for four tickets, what is the constant of variation

money spent = number of people * price of 1 ticket (direst variation)
28 = 4 * price of a ticket

so price of one ticket = 28/4 = 7

Constant of variation is 7

we might write it as m = 7n

Answer:

The constant of variation is 7.

Explanation:

Let x represents the number of buying ticket and y be the total spending,

According to the question,

y ∝ x

y = k x -------- (1)

Where k is the constant of variation,

Since, $28 is spent for four tickets,

If x = 4 , y = 28

Substituting the values in equation (1),

28 = k(4)

Dividing both terms by 4,

7 = k

Hence, the constant of variation is 7.
