The given expression is

\sqrt{ sec^(2) \alpha -1}

The expression inside the square root could be simplified using the trigonometric identity: sec^2 theta - 1 = tan^2 theta

Thus, the nonradical form (meaning without roots and fractions) of the expression would be tan theta.
