A mother fox is watching her kit (baby fox) play in a meadow. Assume the meadow is mapped onto the coordinate plane as shown in the graph. what is the exact distance from the mother fox to her kit?

To find the distance between the mother and the baby we have to calculate the distance in x and the distance in y so:

\begin{gathered} x=7-(-7)=14 \\ y=7-2=5 \end{gathered}

Now we can use the pythagorical theorem to find the distance so:

\begin{gathered} d=\sqrt[]{5^2+14^2} \\ d=\sqrt[]{25+196} \\ d=\sqrt[]{221} \\ d=14.866 \end{gathered}
