I do not have one idea on how to do this, honestly i need help badly.

Brandon earns a rebate each month on his meals and movie tickets. He earns $0.50 for each movie ticket and $2 for each meal. Last month Brandon purchased 22 movie tickets and earned $25.

It would be 0.5x + 2y = 22

so hmm let's say

t = number of movie tickets purchased
m = number of meals bought

so... he earns 0.5 for each ticket... so if he bought "t" tickets, he then earned 0.5*t or 0.5t , whatever that is

and if he bought "m" meals, since each one is $2 earnings, then he earned 2 * m or 2m, whatever that is

is just so happen, we know, for last month he earned on his rebates $25
thus

0.5t + 2m = 25

it just so happen we also know he bought 22 movie tickets last month
thus

\bf 0.5(22) + 2m = 25\implies 11+2m=25\implies 2m=25-11 \\\\\\ 2m=14\implies m=\cfrac{14}{2}\implies \boxed{m=7}
