What is the difference between direct and indirect restorative materials?

Direct restorative materials are placed and formed intraorally while indirect restorative materials are used extraorally to produce prostheses. Some examples of direct restorative materials are Composite Resins, Glass Ionomers, Compomers and for indirect restorative materials is Porcelain Materials.
