Given:

The distance between two stations in map, D= 9cm.

The distance between two stations in real life, d=3 km.

Now, to find the scale of the map take the ratio of D/d .


(d)/(D)=\frac{3\operatorname{km}}{9\text{ cm}}=\frac{1\operatorname{km}}{3\text{ cm}}=(1)/(3)\frac{km}{\operatorname{cm}}

So, the scale of the map is 1 km=3 cm.
