Read the excerpt from part 2 of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge."

The lady had now brought the water, which the soldier drank. He thanked her ceremoniously, bowed to her husband and rode away. An hour later, after nightfall, he repassed the plantation, going northward in the direction from which he had come. He was a Federal scout.

Based on the excerpt, which is the most reasonable plot prediction?

Answer:

The correct answer is the first option.

A) Farquhar may unknowingly walk into a trap.

Step-by-step explanation:

The story set during the American Civil War. The reader knows from the excerpt that this soldier is a Federal Scout who disguised himself. However, Farquhar doesn't know this fact. He is lured by this soldier into a trap which the soldier asks him a favor about burning the bridge.

If these were the missing choices:
A) Farquhar may unknowingly walk into a trap.
B) Farquhar will pursue the soldier from the North.
C) Farquhar and the soldier may engage in an altercation.
D) Farquhar and his wife will forget about the soldier

My answer is : A) Farquhar may unknowingly walk into a trap.

Farquhar is a confederate supporter. That is why when he saw a confederate soldier, he reported of Union movements in the hopes that the Union soldiers will be defeated in the Civil War. Unfortunately, the Confederate soldier was in fact a Union soldier in disguise.
