In a dramatic televised address to the American public, President John F. Kennedy announces that the Soviet Union has placed nuclear weapons in Cuba and, inresponse, the United States will establish a blockade around the island to prevent any other offensive weapons from entering Castro's state.

The missile crisis in Cuba had a long-lasting effect on the United States. The main result of it was the increasing tension of the Cold War, after it, the Soviets increased their investments in an arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles. On the other side, the US also continued to build up its military hardware and resources. A hotline was created between both countries so their leaders could talk in any case of conflicts.
