Around 987 the pagan Prince Vladimir of Kiev sent envoys to neighboring lands to find out about other different religions. He wanted to ally his land with its most powerful neighbors through religion which led to his adoption of Christianity. Vladimir was baptized into Orthodox Christianity and made all his subjects do the same. There for all of Russia became Christian on the decision of one man
