Determine the equation of the line with slope −4 that passes through the point M(−2, 1).

y = −4x + 7
y = −4x − 7
y = 4x + 9
y = −4x − 9

y=-4x-9

I graphed it on a piece of paper. If you put the point onto the graph and go down 4 and over one (following your slope given) until you reach the y axis, then you will find your y-intercept of your equation

y=mx+b
m=slope
b=y-intercept
y=-4x+b
Plug in the coordinate in place of x and y (-2,1)
1=-4(-2)+b
1=8+b
Subtract both sides by 8 to isolate B

b=-7

Final answer:
y = −4x − 7
