A rubber ice-hockey puck has a 2.8 in. diameter. What is the surface area of one flat side of the puck? Use π = 3.14. Round to the nearest tenth.

We need to find only the surface of one flat side. This surface is a circle. And surface area formula for a circle is A=r²*π. Since we know the diameter d=2.8 in. The radius is one half of the diameter or: r=d/2=2.8/2=1.4 in. Now we plug this into the formula for the area: A=1.4² * 3.14=1.96 * 3.14=6.1544 in². Rounded to the nearest tenth the area is: A=6.15 in².

This is the concept of areas of solid material, we are required to calculate for the area of one side of ice-hockey puck. We know that ice-hockey puck has a cylindrical shape. Thus the area of one flat side will be given by:
Area=pi(r^2)
radius=2.8/2=1.4 in
Area=3.14(1.4)^2
Area=6.1544 in^2
