7x+2y=-48 subtract one the one equation from the other to cancel out a variable
-7x+y=60
________
3y=12 divide by 3
y=4 put in y for an equation
-7x + 4=60 subtract 4
-7x=56 divide by -7
x=-8
so, your answer is...x=-8 and y=4
