Can someone help me calculate the area of the figure with the numbers as 10, 6, 8, 4-example-1

First you need to find a way to cut it into regular shapes.
I would make a small square with the top part, and a bigger rectangle with the bottom part.

Find the areas of the two shapes separately.

The area of the bottom rectangle is 6x8=48inches.

To find the area of the top square you need to find the height by subtracting 10-6=4inches.
Then multiply 4x4=16inches.

Now that you have the area of the two shapes, add them together.
16+48=64inches.

The area is 64 inches.

The area is 64.
I split it as 4 times 10=40 plus 8 split into 4 times 6=24
so 40+24 is 64.
