why do you think the Confederacy decided to fire on Fort Sumter rather than accept Lincoln's request to peacefully resupply the soldiers there?

The Confederate Army could've came to the conclusion that Lincoln was possibly setting a trap for them so they just decided to launch a dominant attack on Fort Sumter.  Hope that helps you.
