There are 18 children at a sleepover party. Eleven of the children have blankets, and the other 7 children have stuffed animals. No children have both. If Jorge arrives and carries a stuffed animal, what fraction of the children at the party now have stuffed animals?

The answer is 8/19, because when Jorge comes, there are 19 people at the party and 8 people who have stuffed animals, so the answer is 8/19.

Answer:

Fraction =
(8)/(19)

Explanation:

Every fraction has a numerator (dividend) and a denominator (divisor). To calculate them, we reason about the problem.

Denominator:

Initially, there are 18 children, but now Jorge arrives, so there are a total of 19 children.

Numerator:

Similarly, there were 7 children with stuffed animals, but Jorge brought a stuffed animal, so there are now 8 stuffed animals.

Fraction:

There are 8 children with stuffed animals (numerator) out of a total of 19 children (denominator).

The resulting fraction is
(8)/(19)

Hope this helps!
