Ethan went shopping. He found some electronic games for $32.99 and I- pad for $200. He decided to purchase 3 electronic games and the l-pad. He had a discount card for 18% off, the sales tax is 8.5%. What is his total cost for these items?

He purchase:

3 electronic games --> $32.99*3=$98.97

I pad --> $200

Total without discount and taxes= $298.97

To calculate the discount we are going to use percents:

$298.97*18/100=$53.81 This is the 18% percent discount

So, the total with discount and without sales tax is:

$298.97-$53.81=$245.16

And since we know the sales tax is 8.5% we are going to use the same formula:

$245.16*8.5/100=$20.84

So, the total of these items would be:

$245.16+$20.84=$266
