Portia, out of love for Bassanio and sympathy for Antonio, cross-dresses as a lawyer in order to win the case for Antonio. Throwing herself directly in Shylock's way and eventually succeeding in causing the final blow to Shylock's life; including forcing him to renounce his religion and all claims to his property.
