The speed of sound is approximately 768 miles per hour. When an object travels faster than the speed of sound, it creates a sonic boom. Write an inequality that is true only for speeds (s) at which a moving object creates a sonic boom.

Answer:

s > 768 miles/hour

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that:

1- speed of sound is 768 miles/hour

2- sonic booms are created ONLY WHEN the speed of object (s) is greater than the speed of the sound

This means that:

s < 768 miles/hour ...............> no sonic boom is created (false)

s = 768 miles/hour ................> no sonic boom is created (false)

s > 768 miles/hour ................> sonic boom is created (true)

Since we are looking for the true equation of creation of sonic waves, it would be only the last one (s > 768 miles/hour)

Hope this helps :)
