The deck would be 400 square feet.
40x18= 720 total square feet.
The pool alone is 320 feet so you would subtract that from 720.
720-320=400

the area of the pool deck without subtracting the pool is 720 ft. the second step to this problem is subtracting the pool area from the pool deck which would result in 400 square ft.
