Totalitarianism is a type of regime in which the government has an unusual control over public and private life. Moreover, in this type of regime, the government is usually interested in stopping all ideas and actions that could weaken their rule.

Several aspects of the Nazi regime indicate that it was a totalitarian government. For example, the Nazi party controlled all media, engaged in propaganda campaigns, controlled the life of citizens (including who they could marry, where they could live, where they could travel, the jobs they could perform, etc.) and engaged in state terrorism to destroy the opposition.
