• Diameter,: a straight line passing from one side of the circumference, through the center, and to the opposite side.

,

• Radius,: distance from the center of the circle to the circumference.

Procedure

A=\pi r^2

As the diameter (d) is from one side to the other, then the radius is:

r=(d)/(2)
r=(12)/(2)
r=6

Then, replacing the latter in the formula and considering that π = 3 :

A=3\cdot6^2
A=3\cdot36
A=108

Answer: 108 cm^2
