Let us assign "x" to represent the number.
Let us have 1/x to be reciprocal of a number.

Then we have:
2*1/x for the "two times the reciprocal of the number"
2*1/x = 40 * 1/50 "two times the reciprocal of the number equals 40 times the reciprocal of 50"

Find the number:
2/x=40/50
x= 2(50)/40
x=2.5

The number is 2.5.
