we will start with the first statement

It costs $12 to go to the movies

$6 is the cost of a popcorn

when you see a movie, you will be paying a fixed amount for the tickeck which is $12

In the process of seeing the movie, you will want to consume more than one popcorn depending on the money you have on you

let the number of popcorn consumed be p

since, the amount per popcorn is $6

therefore, the cost of popcorn consumed will be

$6 * p

= 6p

The total cost to see the movie and also buy popcorn is

= cost to go to the movie + the cost of popcorn consumed

= 12 + 6p

the answer for part A statement is 12 + 6p

The second part of the statement

How much will it cost to to go to the movies and buy 5 popcorns

from the above algebraic expression

total cost = 12 + 6p

p = no of popcorn

p = 5

total cost = 12 + 6(5)

total cost = 12 + 30

total cost = $42

The answer is $42
