What is the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the line determined by the equation 5x+8y=17

The slope would be slope intercept form is
y = mx + b

so

5x - 8y = -17
-8y = -17 -5x
8y = 17 + 5x
y = 5/8 x + 17 / 8
Equal fractions. I hoped that this helped. :)
