The D.R. thought the treaty was garbage becauseĀ it was in favor to the British and most of the D.R. is Pro-French

As an attempt to control the influence of the defeated British empire and to address remaining issues since the Treaty of Paris of 1783, the United States signed the Jay Treaty in 1795. However, the implementation of this law was not easy. The debate was so intense some Americans feared civil war might erupt. Democratic Republicans were furious, they were not looking for any bargain with the British. Some opponents took the rage to the streets and hanged the author of the treaty, John Jay.
