The width of the actual book is 9 inches

The width of the image is 3 inches

The ratio of the width of the actual book to that of the image is

9/3 = 3/1

The ratio is 1:3

1) Therefore, the scale used for the image is 3:1

This means that 1 inch on the actual book is 1/3 inch on the image

The actual book is 3 times the image

2) Given that the height of the image is 4.5 inches, the height of the actual book would be

4.5 * 3 = 13.5 inches
