0.045(6000) = 270
0.08(6000) = 480
0.12(6000) = 720

270 + 480 + 720 = 1470 <===

Answer:

The total commission be $1470 .

Explanation:

As given

Cody Summer sells tires for tractor trailers.

Last month he sold $18,000 worth of tires.

Divide this $18000 in three parts = $6000 + $6000 + $6000

As given

He earns 4.5% commission on the first $6,000 in sales.

4.5% is written in the decimal form.

= (4.5)/(100)

= 0.045

Cody Summer earns commission on first $6,000 in sales = 0.045 × 6000

=$ 270

8% commission on the next $6,000 .

8% is written in the decimal form.

= (8)/(100)

= 0.08

Cody Summer earns commission on second $6,000 in sales = 0.08 × 6000

=$ 480

12% commission on sales over $12,000.

As the total Cody Summer sold $18,000 worth of tires.

Thus

worth of tires sales over $12,000 = $18000 - $12000

=$6000

12% is written in the decimal form.

= (12)/(100)

= 0.12

Commission on sales over $12,000 = 0.12 × 6000

=$720

Total commission = Cody Summer earns commission on first $6,000 in sales + Cody Summer earns commission on second $6,000 in sales + Commission on sales over $12,000

Put the value in the above

= $ 270 + $ 480 + $720

= $1470

Therefore the total commission be $1470 .
